Aphex Twin is officially returning with a new EP on his longtime label Warp Records.
His first release in five years, the EP is titled Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / In a Room7 F760 and the profound UK artist has already shared the opening track, “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f,” to give fans a taste of how his sound has changed over the years.
It’s a chill, drum-heavy song, showcasing the talented electronic pioneer’s affinity for mixed beats and unique drum fills.
The official release date for the full EP is June 28, 2023, teased for many months when QR codes from his recent performances and internationally placed posters linked to a new augmented reality app featuring Aphex Twin.
The app’s description says “WAPP480” and matches recent catalog numbers from Warp Records and potentially misspelled as a pun on the word “app” and “Warp Records.”
This is the first EP and music release from Aphex Twin since 2018’s Collapse.
All signs have been pointing to Aphex Twin’s return as he’s reappeared on the festival circuit this summer, headlining London’s Field Day Festival and FORWARDS in Bristol for his first time in the city since 2006.
