Armin van Buuren has tapped Maddix to join him for their first-ever “face-to-face” set at A State Of Trance (ASOT) Festival 2025.
On the first night of the annual trance and progressive pilgrimage, which returns to Ahoy Rotterdam on February 21-22, the legendary DJ and label co-founder will team up with the fellow Dutch heavyweight for a collaborative set with a new twist, Van Buuren announced on social media last week.
In a first for the festival and the respective artists, the “face-to-face” set will see Van Buuren and Maddix perform facing each other, each with their own set of CDJs. Breaking from a time-honored B2B tradition where DJs share the decks side by side, the new format inhibits the artists from seeing each other’s workstation, “emphasizing a deeper, more organic interplay between the two acts,” according to a press release.
Pairing van Buuren’s timeless productions with Maddix’s new-school trance-techno sound, the rare performance will come as part of van Buuren’s monumental five-hour set on Friday night, during which he’ll also play B2B with Ukranian melodic duo ARTBAT and surging British selector Ben Hemsley.
Further performances throughout the weekend include Aly & Fila, Factor B, Adam Beyer, Agents Of Time, Nifra, and ASOT co-founder Ruben de Ronde, playing B2B with Ferry Corsten. Check out the full lineup here.
Alongside the “F2F” announcement, A State Of Trance also confirmed its Saturday daytime community programming, offering a blend of wellness and creativity panels between the event’s dazzling nighttime performances.
Among the daytime events are a slow flow yoga class, a look behind A State Of Trance’s signature production in a special VJing session, a production tips panel with De Ronde and AVIRA, and even a chance to get track feedback from Armada Music’s A&R team.
Tying the program together is a “Transform Your Health” sofa session with Van Buuren, in which the artist will share insights into living balanced in the fast-paced world of dance music. Another concept, “Service for Dreamers,” invites attendees to share their personal stories behind their favorite trance anthems, while a private pool party will have ravers refreshed for night two.
