ATLiens have released their anticipated debut album, Leaving The World Behind.
The 13-track project arrives today on the masked bass duo’s own Space Cult imprint, and sees the Atlanta-hailing group travel far afield from the dubstep domain they’ve conquered for nearly a decade, showcasing their cutting-edge sound design, precision beats and bewitching melodies across a variety of electronic styles.
After an ambient intro on “INTO THIS WORLD,” Leaving The World Behind gets right down to business with sawing synth lines and stirring vocals from GG Magree on the duo’s previously released single, “BLACK SHEEP,” carrying a trench beat that finds an even darker turn on its ensuing track, “FINDING SILENCE,” featuring vocals from Canadian pop-rap artist Northside Hollow.
Tapping eerie vocals from Los Angeles artist Cxssidy, “LOSING MY MIND” is a swirling trip through experimental sonics and machine-gun-style stabs ahead of ATLiens’ previously released freeform bass collaboration with Dion Timmer, “IMY.”
Continuing their sonic exploration, the group finds a cool lo-fi bedroom beat on the interlude track “TRAIN SONG” before laying growling synth basslines over dreamy indie pop on “FLOWERS,” a collaboration with FRNDSbyMDNGHT and Denisse Borquez.
Linking up with surging midtempo bass artist One True God on “CUTTING TIES,” ATLiens coolly flip a sexy, low-end comedown beat into bouncy shuffled breaks, while “NEVER GETTING YOU BACK” with Yultron flows from pop-forward EDM to synth-heavy midtempo to high-energy drum & bass—and back again.
Even more formidable collaborations close the LP, including ATLiens’ previously released downtempo bass track with Roniit, “BE YOUR GHOST,” a new oddball 140-BPM deep dub collaboration with in-demand duo YOOKiE in “SOUL ON FIRE,” and uptempo D&B with GRIIMM on “SINKING,” before a crooning midtempo finish on “LEAVING THE WORLD BEHIND.”
The album’s release follows last month’s announcement of ATLiens’ “Leaving The World Behind Tour,” which will hit 21 North American cities from November to March 2025, including milestone shows at The Torch in LA and Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy. Find a full list of tour dates here.
