New Avicii Documentary & Footage From Final Ibiza Performance To Hit Netflix

Avicii

A documentary film about the life and legacy of Avicii is coming to Netflix.

Following its premiere at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival in July, Avicii – I’m Tim will hit the popular streaming service on December 31, Netflix announced today.

Featuring never-before-seen footage, interviews, and even narration from legendary late DJ and producer himself, the 125-minute film is said to follow Avicii—real name Tim Bergling—“on a winding journey through life” from his birth in Stockholm in 1989 to his tragic death by suicide in Oman in 2018 at the age of just 28.

“This is a film where Tim himself is the narrator and he shares his inner self in a way we haven’t heard before,” reads a portion of the film’s synopsis. “Through himself and everyone close to him – family, artist colleagues and best friends – we get to know Tim – the boy behind Avicii – for the first time.”

Helping to tell Bergling’s music story in Avicii – I’m Tim are several of the artist’s former collaborators, such as Aloe Blacc, Coldplay‘s Chris Martin, and legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers, as well as Avicii’s former manager, Ash Pournouri, among others. The film was directed by Swedish filmmaker and music journalist Henrik Burman and produced by Swedish cinematographer Björn Tjärnberg.

Alongside the film’s release on December 31, Netflix will also premiere a new concert film, Avicii – My Last Show, which documents Avicii’s final performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza in 2016. Another full-length Avicii documentary from Academy Award-winning Pulp Fiction producer Lawrence Bender is also in production.

In other Avicii news, a charity auction of the artist’s personal belongings last month reportedly raised nearly $700,000 for the Tim Bergling Foundation, the mental health non-profit founded in his honor.
