German DJ and producer, Boris Brejcha has finally released his long-awaited album, Level One. Brejcha is a techno legend who has become a household name in the minimal/techno scene.
Brejcha is known for his innovative songs and performances, wearing his iconic masquerade mask whenever he is performing live. “Level One” is the opening song on the album and is a cinematically inspired track that sets a high tone for the rest of the album.
While the entire LP should be listened to in its entirety, there are a few standouts. “Rave City” with Ginger is an instant classic. Beginning with a minimal techno beat and an extremely catchy vocal that mimics an airline announcement: “All passengers on flight 808 to Rave City, please proceed to gate 303, 303, 303 (repeating)” followed by a high-energy techno drop makes the track a forced to be reckoned with.
“Space X” is also notable, as it sounds a bit like what we’d imagine the soundtrack of a spaceship flying through the cosmos would sound like: intergalactic with deep, alien-like vocals in the backtrack. Brejcha also held a remix contest in March in connection with Beatport with this record, which is exciting for up-and-coming producers.
The entire album explores the concepts of space and time and tells stories throughout the 17 tracks without many words throughout. Brejcha is an innovator and allows his audiences to create stories with his songs guiding them.
Brejcha is continuing to make waves in the space and the release of this album is just the next step of many for the artist.
