Start early

Breakaway Michigan is still two weeks out, but the music is already pumping. After organizers partnered with local promoters and venues for several festival-backed pre-parties across the region in recent weeks, there’s one event left to get you right for the festival weekend.

On Friday, August 7, another official Breakaway pre-party gets the show on the road a week early, bringing a free, 21+ show with performances by silent disco lineup artists Carto, DJ Dolce, and UJeffo to Broadleaf Underground from 9PM to 12AM.

Home to an outdoor patio with yard games, craft beer, cocktails, and award-winning tacos by Taqueria Chilango, which was lauded as Grand Rapids’ “Best Mexican Cuisine” in Revue’s 2026 Best of the West readers survey, the bar and restaurant is a perfect spot to connect with local partygoers before the festival kicks off.

Getting there

Situated less than 1 mile from the city center and just steps from the Grand River, Breakaway Michigan’s conveniently located festival site at Belknap Park gives dance music fans across the Grand Rapids metro area and West Michigan the chance to catch several of the world’s biggest electronic acts right in their own backyard. It’s also less than a three-hour drive from collegiate hubs in Lansing and Ann Arbor, and from Detroit, which makes it ripe with young partygoers breaking into the scene.

Belknap Park sits 12 miles (about a 20-minute drive) from Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Those traveling in can book a headache-free stay with exclusive rates at one of 95 partner hotels through Breakaway’s 2026 Travel Packages. Fans can bundle their ticket and hotel purchases for additional savings. For more information, visit breakawayfestival.com.

Fuel up

On site at the festival, Breakaway Michigan hosts plenty of food and beverage vendors serving hot food, cold drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages, including branded activations and freebies from Celsius, White Claw, BeatBox, Jack Daniel’s, Hiyo, and Jimmy John’s. But to ensure you’re fueled before and after the party, there are plenty of local restaurants and bars where fans can grab a bite or sip a pre-fest cocktail.

Grab a beer and pub grub from favorite spots like Founders Brewing Co., Brick and Porter, Garage Bar, The Score, Blue Dog Tavern, or The Old Goat. Taste cocktails at One Bourbon, bite into Detroit-style pizza at Quarantinos and Mediterranean dishes at Živio, or slurp down Sapporo Ramen.

Breakfast bites, brunch, and coffee from Madcap Coffee Company, The LittleBird, and Field & Fire Cafe are a great way to start the day, while elevated dining options like The Sovengard, Butcher’s Union, and Terra offer fresh farm-to-table meals. You’ll also find a little bit of everything at Grand Rapids Downtown Market.

Blüejay, MattB, KHØDA LEON, Riink, and Lowke B2B RØNAN make up this year’s local support on the main lineup, while the festival’s Jimmy John’s silent disco serves up sandwiches and beats by additional local talent. Check out the full schedule in the post below.

Party late

When the festival ends at 11PM, Breakaway gives festivalgoers plenty of ways to keep the music going at nightly afterparties happening across the city. Night one brings Minneapolis-based melodic duo Twinsick to The Intersection on Friday, August 14, with additional support from MZ NORTH and Riink.

On night two, it’s a full venue takeover across two rooms at The Intersection.
