Burning Man Seeking $475 Donations To Ensure Survival

The future of Burning Man depends on you, according to the organization.

In a latest bid to ensure its survival next year, the Burning Man organization has launched a donation site to hopefully continue on with its mission in 2021. As many festivals and organizations are facing similar circumstances due the ongoing pandemic, it has become increasingly clear that the future is unsure for a lot of events due to the major financial loss taken this year.

Messaging on the new donation site reads, “Sadly we will not be gathering in the Black Rock Desert in 2020. Though this will result in an unprecedented revenue shortfall for Burning Man Project, we remain optimistic. We are committed to maintaining the critical infrastructure we’ll need, after cuts to expenses and staffing, to produce Black Rock City 2021 and continuing our vital off-playa work in the year ahead. We can’t do this without your help.”

The suggested donation is $475, the amount of an admission ticket. It is important to note that this does not however, guarantee you a ticket to the festival if it returns, it is simply a gift to the organization to keep it alive. While many may not be able to donate that much, donations of all amounts are welcomed. Gifting is a huge part of the Burning Man culture, so if you are a burner this request may not be too much of an ask.
