Virtual workers looking to move to Canada are in luck as a new digital nomad visa could allow travelers the chance to live in the country for up to six months with potential opportunities for citizenship.
This new visa intends to attract skilled tech workers from other countries and will allow remote personnel from outside the country to work and live in Canada for up to six months.
Through the new visa, workers can also apply for a temporary work permit and stay for an additional three years, after which it’s possible to apply for citizenship if they stay in the area for 1,095 days in a five-year period.
But unlike many other countries’ digital nomad visas, there is no salary requirement to apply.
The process is similar to other visas where travelers must submit an application with proof of employment, a photo, and fingerprints and attend an interview with an immigration office.
Canada’s government said it hopes to officially launch the program by late 2023.
Canada joins a growing list of locations including Australia, Barbados, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Norway, and Portugal, that have visa programs specifically aimed at remote workers.
