Carl Cox is set to headline the grand opening of Space’s new Italian nightclub, Space Riccione.
On Saturday, June 2, 2024, the 12-hour will fittingly kick off Space Riccione’s first season in business on the Adriatic Coast with a Hybrid Live performance from Cox, who helped lift its Ibizan forerunner to worldwide acclaim with a 15-year residency starting in 2001.
“We are happy to continue 27 years of Space Ibiza history here in Riccione, an iconic place that represents entertainment,” Space owner Pepe Roselló said in a press release. “Love for music and mutual respect, the main characteristics of all our events, will also be central to this new experience, which we all believe in so much.”
Emulating Space Ibiza’s famously expansive layout, Space Riccione will feature three main areas–the Arena, Garden and Terrace–plus a smaller lounge space. The venue plans to continue to welcome the “biggest names” in global electronic music each Saturday throughout the summer. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
“The new era of Space will be a beautiful and unique experience,” Space Riccione COO Fabrizio De Meis said in a press release. “We’re excited to reveal our vision of a state-of-the-art, club-meets-festival venue.”
Space first teased its Italian expansion in June 2023 with a post on Instagram that reads, “It’s coming,” accompanied by Italian words that translate to “Freedom, transgression, love, diversity, harmony, empathy, connection and music.”
Rumors of Space Ibiza’s reopening have swirled since its closure in October 2016. Roselló hinted at the legendary nightclub’s return as recently as 2021, outlining plans for a new bar, restaurant and club night in the island’s San Antonio neighborhood.
