Charlotte de Witte and the soy sauce brand Tomasu have introduced a new limited edition brand of soy sauce labeled “Tears of Soy,” a soy sauce concept that unites a traditional Chinese flavor with the Belgian beer culture and heritage.
The Belgian techno DJ and producer along with the Rotterdam soy sauce brewery run by BoerBakkerBert BV merged to develop the recipe after her self-proclaimed “slight addiction to soy sauce,” inspired her to email Tomasu back in 2020 in regards to collaborating.
Now, a few years following their connection, they have curated a soy sauce to fit the unique vision of a Chinese condiment with a Belgian flair. A launch for the sauce was held at the recent massive showcase for de Witte’s label and brand, KNTXT, at Flanders Expo in Ghent, Belgium, de Witte’s hometown.
“People who know me well know I have a slight addiction for soy sauce,”de Witte confessed. “Together we have created a hop-based soy sauce. A premium product that has a strong connection with the Belgian beer culture and Belgian heritage.”
