Chase & Status have just dropped their anticipated new single, “BACKBONE,” in collaboration with British rap superstar Stormzy.
It seems like lately, everything the award-winning drum & bass duo touches turns to gold. After leading a genre resurgence with mega-hits like “Baddadan” with Flowdan and “Disconnect,” with Becky Hill, today’s release on Capitol Records sees producers Saul Milton (Chase) and Wil Kennard (Status) unite with another formidable collaborator in Stormzy and continue their penchant for spotlighting the UK’s best grime MCs.
“We are so gassed to work with the legend that is Stormzy,” Chase & Status said in a joint statement. “We’ve always wanted to bring his energy into our world and are so excited for the fans to hear this collaboration.”
After its debut at Coachella in April, “BACKBONE” has stirred up even more social media buzz following the pair’s recent takeover at Ushuaïa Ibiza, where Stormzy made a surprise appearance to perform live with the duo.
Stormzy serves up another powerful and commanding verse on the track, equipped with the powerful shout-along hook, “You ain’t got no backbone,” pairing perfectly with Chase & Status’ famously unrelenting beats.
Coming off of a performance at HARD Summer, the duo are next slated to play their biggest headline live show to date at the 45,000-capacity Milton Keynes Bowl this weekend.
