Coachella Reverses Mandatory Carpool Rule For Day Parking Lots

Coachella has announced that it will do away with a newly introduced rule that would have required attendees to pack their cars with at least four people in order to access the festival’s day parking lots.

Coachella today sent out an email blast that stated, “While we still encourage you to consider carpooling to the desert this April, parking 4+ people per car is no longer necessary to access the day parking lots. Come as you are and bring a friend along for the road trip if you’ve got the space.”

The initial change to the festival’s day parking policy came two weeks ago, with many fans voicing their discontent for the mandatory carpool rule online.

Prospective attendees speculated that those who arrived with less than four people in their car would be directed to other off-site parking lots or “park and ride” shuttle stops, potentially adding to arrival confusion and causing traffic headaches.

Despite doing away with the “4+ rule,” Coachella is still encouraging ticket holders to carpool to the festival if possible. The event’s annual Carpoolchella contest will go ahead as planned, awarding prizes like backstage passes, VIP upgrades, merchandise and food vouchers, and even “VIP tickets for life” to the best-decorated cars arriving with four passengers or more.

All of Coachella’s standard day parking rules are still in place. Day parking will remain first come, first serve, with overflow directed to a nearby off-site location once lots are full. Day parking lots will be open from Friday to Sunday between the hours of 11AM and 2AM. Cars left after 2AM will be towed.

Additionally, no pick-ups or drop-offs will be permitted in the day parking lot. Taxis and rideshare vehicles will be directed to Coachella’s designated pick-up and drop-off location.

Overnight and preferred parking passes are available for purchase on the festival’s official website.
