The first piece of music off Daft Punk’s 10th Anniversary Edition of Random Access Memories has dropped, giving the first taste of the unseen moments behind the beloved LP.
This release is a rework of “Fragments of Time” called “The Writing of Fragments of Time.” The track was originally released in 2013 and was written and recorded with longtime collaborator Todd Edwards. Edwards first worked with Daft Punk on “Face To Face” off their Discovery album in 2001.
The new edit features sound clips of the entire production journey of the song back in 2012, allowing fans to hear intimate moments of discovery between Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter and Edwards.
The lyrics have an element of future nostalgia, with the artists speculating how they would feel looking back to these random memories, much like remembering and reliving this specific creative moment captured in the track.
This release also comes with a video directed by Daft Punk art director Cédric Hervet.
The expanded 10th Anniversary edition of Random Access Memories will be available on May 12 with 35 minutes of unreleased music.
