Detox Unit is back with “Detonator.”
Blending raw bassweight and meticulous sound design with the hip-hop bounce that has come to define his high-flying live performances, the cult-favorite experimental bass artist’s explosive new single dropped on Friday, offering a first glimpse into his next creative chapter nearly three years on from his last original release, 2023’s acclaimed Liminal LP.
The first single to materialize from his forthcoming Schematic EP, “Detonator” reheats the Denver-based producer, DJ, and longtime Tipper & Friends affiliate’s catalog with a dancefloor-focused intensity designed to hit as hard in your headphones as the festival sound systems he’s commanded for over a decade, duly timed with one of his biggest live performance runs yet.
After a year spent locked in the studio refining his new sonic vision, the artist—born Joseph Roberts—is back on the road this summer, where he’s fresh off two surprise appearances at Electric Forest—including a first-ever B2B with Thought Process at Grand Artique—and gearing up for headline sets at Sound Haven and Nocturnal Valley, as well as an awaited return to Secret Dreams, ahead of more festival and headline dates through late December.
