The world’s longest nonstop flight is about to get longer as Qantas is poised to open a trip from Sydney to London Heathrow that is 10,576 miles and 20 hours long.
The world’s longest direct flight is currently Singapore Airlines’ JFK to Singapore flight at 9,532 miles and has held the title since 2021.
The majority of ultra-long-haul flight record holders have departed from the US since 1997, according to data from global travel data provider, OAG, but have been overthrown by flights to Australia, Singapore, and the UAE.
The newest record holder is set to debut in late 2025 by Australia’s Qantas as a part of Project Sunrise, a plan to deliver more direct routes to Australia that began in 2017 but was delayed due to the pandemic.
And many of these extra-long flights are about to get more comfortable as well as the new ViaSat-3 satellite will be in position in a few weeks, making in-flight Wi-Fi faster and more reliable.
