Disclosure has announced the forthcoming release of their new single, “Arachnids.”
The British house duo announced on Instagram yesterday that the track will arrive on The Warehouse Project’s new label, WHP Records, on October 25, marking a continued embrace of more experimental and underground sounds by Grammy-nominated brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence following the release of their 808-heavy collaboration with Chris Lake, “in2minds,” last month.
Buzz surrounding “Arachnids” began late last month when Guy Lawrence premiered the new track on Disclosure’s official Twitch channel.
In addition to breaking down his production process, Lawrence explained on the livestream that the track’s name was inspired by the fact that a large number of spiders were hanging around his home studio when he created it. He also likened a key sound in the track to that of “a spider, hissing.”
“The house I’m in is pretty prone to daddy longlegs and those kind of spiders, and there was just tons, so I just named it after them,” Lawrence said. “That’s why it’s called ‘Arachnids.’”
Sonically, the track is a dizzying journey through warehouse beats and mystical melodies, with syncopated hi-hat rhythms, ever-changing acid synths, and all sorts of distorted basslines laid over another monster 808 beat.
“I hope this can be a lesson for everyone that there should be no limitations on genre-jumping, BPM jumping, slowdowns, key changes—just f***ing go wherever you want and let your brain run wild,” Lawrence said of the track’s dynamism on the livestream. “If you want to take it to the desert, and you want to write a song about spiders, you can do it.”
More Disclosure tunes are on the way. Earlier this month, the duo shared their tentative release calendar on Instagram, revealing that they’ll release a new single each month through January 2025, including targets to release “King Steps” in November, “When The Sun Comes Up” in December, and another Chris Lake ID in January.
