Discogs is donating all the proceeds from its music sales on January 17 to people impacted by the ongoing wildfires ravaging much of Los Angeles.
The music discovery platform, marketplace, and staple tool for DJs will send this Friday’s revenue to the Recording Academy’s MusicCares charity. The Grammy Awards organizer’s nonprofit is currently diverting funds to support LA musicians and industry professionals with emergency aid, relocation, counseling services, and more.
“Our hearts are with Los Angeles during this unimaginable time,” Discogs vice president of marketing Jeffrey Smith said in a statement. “The resilience and generosity of the music community are truly inspiring, reminding us how powerful we can be when we come together.”
“This Friday, every record purchased will support independent sellers and small businesses worldwide while also a wonderful nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding and uplifting LA’s music scene,” he continued. “Let’s turn our shared love of music into meaningful action for those who need it most.”
At the time of writing, the Eaton, Hurst, and Palisades fires have collectively burned around 60 square miles—an area larger than the city limits of Paris—across the city, displaced tens of thousands of residents, and killed at least 24 people since they broke out on January 7, per CNN. The Auto fire, a new blaze in Ventura County, broke out late last night.
If you’re looking to bolster your setlist or pick up a new favorite album on Discogs, Friday is the day to do so.
