Electric Forest has the green light to continue operating at its site in Rothbury, Michigan, for another eleven years.
At a special meeting last week, the Village of Rothbury approved an extension of the festival’s gathering permit through the summer of 2035, according to the White Lake Mirror, a non-profit news outlet serving Oceana County, in which Rothbury resides.
The extension follows an amendment made by the city last month, which now allows for 15-year permits, rising from a previously established 10-year permit limit.
In November 2019, Electric Forest was granted a 10-year permit to remain in Rothbury through 2030. The 2019 permit was approved with a 5-2 vote from the Rothbury Village Council, provided that the village collects a percentage of ticket fees used to make road repairs and improve traffic to and from the festival site.
The new five-year extension now allows for additional music and site upgrades at future editions of the festival, according to the White Lake Mirror.
This year, Electric Forest will return to Rothbury’s Double JJ Resort from June 20-23, 2024, with an array of electronic and jam-focused acts, including headliners like Subtronics, John Summit, Excision and Umphrey’s McGee.
Though tickets for Electric Forest 2024 sold out in December, the White Lake Mirror reports that AEG Presents, the company that puts on the festival each year, has no plans to increase the number of tickets sold “for the foreseeable future.”
