Electric Forest Increases Safety Measures Following Shooting At Beyond Wonderland At The Gorge Campgrounds

Following the tragic shooting that occurred this past weekend at The Gorge campgrounds during Beyond Wonderland PNW, Electric Forest will be implementing increased security measures.

In a post on social media, the Michigan camping festival addressed concerns about how they are responding to the shooting at The Gorge campgrounds in regard to the upcoming edition taking place this weekend: June 22-25, 2023.

They announced the festival will deploy a specialized K9 Unit to detect firearms and will work with security professionals, Michigan State Police, and local law enforcement with their presence visible to all attendees at any part of the site.

They also reminded everyone of the “See Something, Say Something” mindset, where if attendees see something suspicious or dangerous, they should let staff know immediately.

Many of the comments on the post are from relieved ravers glad that the event is still going to take place, while also expressing gratitude for the enhanced safety measures as the community is still recovering from the shock.

K9 units can be trained to detect a wide variety of contraband. The dogs at Electric Forest will likely be specifically trained for firearms or weapons, as it was mentioned in the announcement that they “have undergone rigorous training in firearm detection amidst a large crowd and in challenging environmental conditions.”
