‘Live Audio Rooms’ will feature exclusive chat and discussion rooms
For those who don’t know, Clubhouse is a social media app that features various chat rooms or groups of up to 5,000 people. The chat rooms are invitation-only and often serve as a location where people can chat and discuss various opportunities and topics. Now, Facebook has introduced a new competitive platform that will serve as a future Clubhouse competitor.
Facebook’s new audio platform will be called ‘Live Audio Rooms’ and will be available later this summer. The platform will first be revealed to groups and public figures before it makes its way to Facebook Messenger. Eventually, the platform will enable charging fees for exclusive chat rooms, some with public figures or powerful social figures. The payments will either be subscription-based or a one-time fee.
To get people to tune into the platform, the company has created an Audio Creator Fund to support emerging creators and has partnered with Soundbites, which is often used on TikTok and will be used within the broader News Feed. Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, compared Soundbites to Reels, Instagram’s TikTok competitor but for audio. Zuckerberg has also commented that he prefers audio over video because audio allows users to multitask and have longer conversations.
‘Live Audio Rooms’ will be coming out later this summer. No release date has been solidified as of yet.
