It’s not always sunshine and roses for Fred again.. Though the indie-dance superstar blew the roof off the Brooklyn Paramount at an NYC pop-up show with Skepta and KETTAMA last night, some fans have voiced their frustration over the way tickets were released.
After a week of swirling rumors, Fred livestreamed a “release party” on Twitch yesterday for his new single, “Victory Lap,” with famed UK grime MC Skepta. At its conclusion, the producer and DJ linked up with KETTAMA as they journeyed to the venue, which remained formally unannounced until their arrival.
Although sleuthing fans had determined the venue long before the four-hour livestream concluded, with many arriving at the Paramount even before Fred, the ticket link only became available once the artist and his team entered the building, less than 30 minutes before doors were scheduled to open.
Close to 100,000 hopefuls were in the show’s Ticketmaster queue at the time tickets dropped, while the Brooklyn Paramount’s standard capacity is 2,700 guests.
Compounded by rumors of an industry guest list and an early ticket link leak from Skepta’s team, fans have alleged online that the process made it difficult for fans without connections to get in the building.
“Hey I was 28 in the queue and didn’t get in,” one user commented on Fred’s latest Instagram post. Another wrote, “I love you Fred, but yesterday was not it.”
However, some have come to his defense: “Nahhh we don’t tolerate Fred slander round here. I don’t care what ‘he’ did or how ‘he’ did it. He’s getting to a point of stupid popularity/success. Life’s complicated. Give him notes and keep bumping that shii again and again and again,” a third user commented.
Moments ago, Fred shared a message on Instagram stories and teased an upcoming show at NYC’s considerably larger Forest Hills Stadium: “BTW New York I hope it goes without saying that next time we come we’ll play somewhere a bit bigger. This was just so last minute that we did all that was possible. Foresthillsagainagainagainagainagainagainagainagainagain…?”
