Four Tet has released his awaited new single, “Into Dust (Still Falling).”
A staple in the prolific British producer and DJ’s sets for close to a year, the sparkling club track arrived yesterday via XL Recordings, and samples folky California psych rock band Mazzy Star’s celebrated 1993 track “Into Dust,” reworking its pensive guitar pluck and lead singer Hope Sandoval’s somber vocals into a cool rising groove.
Mazzy Star’s “Into Dust” appeared on the band’s 1993 album, So Tonight That I Might See. The Santa Monica four-piece formed out of the ashes of Opal in 1988, and soon rose to prominence throughout the mid-1990s, blending blues and folk with droning psychedelic guitar across hits like “Fade Into You” and “Halah.”
“Into Dust (Still Falling)” marks Four Tet’s first official release of the year, following his 2024 album, Three, which featured tracks such as “Loved” and “Daydream Repeat.” It also clearly tips his hand as a fan of modern folk music, as in September, he’s also slated to release a folk-inspired album with Nashville guitarist William Tyler under his real name, Kieran Hebden.
This summer, fans can catch Four Tet on tour with dates at Glastonbury, Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, Dekmantel Festival, HARD Summer, Pacha Ibiza, Creamfields, Philadelphia’s Making Time, and more ahead of a doubleheader at London’s Alexandra Palace in November.
