Global Dance announced the first part of the lineup for their acclaimed Global Dance Festival set for July 21st & 22nd. The flagship festival changed venues from Red Rocks to the Sports Authority Field at the last minute. This was a major shock to all the people who have attended the festival for so many years. However with this shock comes a lot of hope for the future of Global Dance Festival. In the official trailer they shed some light on why they left Red Rocks. At the end of the video they even thank Red Rocks and say, “it’s time for a bigger home.”
Red Rocks has a max capacity 9,525 people, not nearly enough for a large scale festival. Also for the last several years there have been major noise restrictions put on the Amphitheater. These ordinances are due to the homeowners that live in the surrounding area, as well as the preservation of the Amphitheater itself. One of the rules at Red Rocks is that all shows have to be finished by midnight. In fact most shows are finished around 11-11:30 PM so there is plenty of time for everyone to exit the venue. Then there is even a strict decibel limit that limits how loud the volume is. These restrictions have caused several big named artist like Bassnectar and Excision to refuse to play at Red Rocks.
So the announcement of the venue change holds much excitement. There won’t be the same pesky noise and time restrictions. There are a lot more hotels around the football field. They have more room to expand and have more stages that are larger. This could be a new beginning for Global Dance Festival that allows it to become the largest massive in Colorado. With an initial lineup that has big acts like 3LAU, Deorro, Excision b2b Datsik (for first time ever!), Green Velvet, Hardwell, Kaskade, Louis the Child, Nero (DJ set), Porter Robinson (live), and Zhu it’s going to be one of the must see shows of the summer!
