The 2025 Grammy Awards will go ahead as planned at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 2, the Recording Academy announced today, despite ongoing wildfires that have destroyed many neighborhoods across the city.
In a joint statement shared with Recording Academy members today, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason and Board of Trustees Chair Tammy Hurt acknowledged the Los Angeles communities devastated by the Eaton, Hurst and Palisades fires, which have collectively burned over 38,000 acres, displaced tens of thousands of residents and killed at least 24 people since they broke out on January 7, per CNN.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days,” they wrote.
“In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on Feb. 2 will proceed as planned,” the statement continued. “This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”
Last week, the Recording Academy and its nonprofit arm MusiCares launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, pledging $1 million to support LA musicians and industry professionals impacted by the wildfires. Additional donations have seen the organization distribute over $2 million in emergency aid, according to the Recording Academy. Learn more and donate here.
Closing their statement, Mason and Hurt wrote, “In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.
The Grammys will air live on CBS at 7PM on February 2. Beyoncé leads this year’s nominees with 11 Grammy nods, making her the most-nominated artist in the awards’ history. Major nominees in the dance music categories include Justice, Four Tet, Charli XCX, Zedd, KAYTRANADA, and more.
