Grimes Issues Apology Following Coachella Debacle

Grimes has issued a public apology after technical difficulties marred her DJ set at Coachella on Saturday night.

About halfway through her 50-minute set, the Canadian artist encountered technical difficulties. She explained on stage that her tracks were playing at double their normal speed.

As a result, the music ceased for minutes at a time. She was forced to restart her forthcoming single “MUSIC 4 MACHINES” several times and ended the set early.

“I want to apologize for the technical issues with the show tonight,” reads Grimes’ apology on X, formerly Twitter

“I wanted to come back rly strong and usually I always handle every aspect of my show myself – to save time this was one of the first times I’ve outsourced essential things like rekordbox bpm’s and letting someone else organize the tracks on the sd card etc.” she continued. “i had a bad feeling beforehand not having run everything thru the cdjs myself and tho I flagged it I wasn’t insistent.”

In between shrieks of frustration, Grimes addressed the crowd live on stage at Coachella’s Sahara Tent, saying, “Sorry. We are actually having a major technical difficulty. I’m trying to sync. I’m not good enough at math for this s***, but here we go.”

Grimes’ Coachella debacle and ensuing apology have garnered polarized responses from DJs on social media. Some have criticized her preparedness, while others empathize with handling technical difficulties without an on-stage support team.

“Oh man I feel so bad for her,” Australian producer What So Not wrote on X. “Girl needs a tech up there! It’s such a simple thing to fix/solve. Where’s her team at??”

“Nothing about grimes statement makes any sense lol I feel like she did this all on purpose for attention because, what? Stressing over your set for ‘months’ but not checking your music even once makes 0 sense,” Azzecca shared on X.

Grimes ended her statement by promising to “personally organize all the files” for her return performance during Coachella weekend two.

“Next week will be flawless; everything will run through my hands,” she wrote.
