GRiZ’s “It’s Called: Freefall” Remix To Get Official Release After RKS Bonnaroo Surprise

After three years of waiting, GRiZ’s remix of Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s “It’s Called: Freefall” is finally getting an official release.

Due out tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24, the bass remake of the indie rock band’s beloved 2018 hit debuted as a heartfelt tribute to RKS when GRiZ filled in for the band at Bonnaroo in 2023 with a Chasing The Holden Hour set. At the time, RKS were forced to cancel their appearance due to a medical emergency.

Since then, it’s become a staple of GRiZ’s live show and one of his most requested IDs, now landing just weeks after his headline return to Bonnaroo, where he was joined on stage by RKS frontwoman and fellow LGBTQIA+ icon Ela Melo to perform the track live.

Closing Pride Month with a bang, GRiZ’s “It’s Called: Freefall” remix also arrives hot on the heels of the saxophone-toting dubstep artist’s 10th full-length album, Future Funk Volume 1, which dropped earlier this month.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise has released two new singles this year—“Never Have I Ever” and “Sixteen”—as they continue touring internationally in support of their 2025 album, bones.
