Beatport has shared a new documentary film all about inclusive dance music brand HE.SHE.THEY.’s rise to global recognition.

Available to watch now on YouTube, the 40-minute film comes as part of the online music marketplace’s Off The Record series and is the result of a larger partnership between the two brands announced in November, which seeks to tell the story of one of dance music’s leading LGBTQIA+ brands.

The film explores the lives and journeys of HE.SHE.THEY. founders Sophia Kearney and Steven Braines, who started the brand as an event series in 2017. Since then, it’s grown to comprise a fashion brand and a record label, championing diversity and inclusion for all genders, races and sexualities every step of the way.

Joining Kearney and Braines on camera is a collection of HE.SHE.THEY.’s most pivotal team members and advocates, including Management and Events Coordinator Ashraf Ejjbair, resident DJs SYREETA, WAX WINGS and Verity Mayes, singer-songwriter Campbell King and live performers Yves Saint Croissant, Alexis Meshida and Mama Stylist.

At the cornerstone of the film are HE.SHE.THEY.’s “house rules,” guiding viewers through the brand’s inclusive ethos, and listed as follows: Experimentation is encouraged; A place without prejudice; Trans inclusion matters; and “Yes” means “yes,” everything else means “no.”

Since its inception, HE.SHE.THEY. has hosted events in 15 countries and 50 cities worldwide, including huge festivals like Glastonbury and Kappa FuturFestival and legendary nightclubs like fabric, Cocoricò and Amnesia Ibiza.

This year, the brand is setting off on a North American tour with stops in Miami, San Francisco New York City and more. Tickets for upcoming HE.SHE.THEY. events are available here.
