Today, renowned Dutch hardstyle producer Headhunterz shared an emotional message with fans, announcing that he is “going to stop performing” indefinitely.
“Speaking from the heart” in a video posted to Instagram, Headhunterz–real name Willem Rebergen–said, “The decision that I’ve made is that I’m going to stop performing. And at first that may come off a little bit heavy or something, but to be honest, it’s quite the opposite for me.”
Headhunterz went on to say that he has been in a “really good place” which has allowed him to “take a step back” and ask personal questions about what makes him happy.
“My life feels very meaningful because I am doing something that I absolutely love; and that is creating, making music,” he continued.
Headhunterz explained that the nonstop DJ life has taken a toll on his mental and physical health. Even though he loves performing, when presented with the choice between creating and touring, he “would always choose creating.”
“I’m of course really thankful to all of you for taking that journey with me and I could have never done it without everyone who supported me,” he said. “Saying all that, it really sounds like a goodbye. But of course it really isn’t. I’m just giving up one thing to be able to fully commit to the other.”
Finally, the hardstyle icon shared an exciting plan to release a collection of tracks as a “bundled” EP on September 15; and that more tunes are coming, as he “will have loads of time to finish a lot of new music in the future.”
