Spain will join the European Union’s ‘Digital Green Certificate’ program
Ibiza will not be requiring a COVID-19 test for tourists this summer after Spain’s general Secretary of Digital Health, Alfredo González, confirmed that Spain will be joining the European Union’s ‘Digital Green Certificate‘ program. The program will allow tourists to show if they have had a vaccine a not or if they are completely immune via a QR code. This is what Alfredo González publicly commented,
It’s a mechanism that will facilitate mobility in the European Union. It will respect data protection, safety, and privacy. It is planned so that it will not be discriminatory, and that is one of the major advantages,” he added, expressing his confidence that it will be a great help for the summer tourism season in Spain.
Spain is currently expecting to welcome more than 40 million tourists this summer. The European Union’s ‘Digital Green Certificate‘ program is expected to launch sometime in June, which may increase or decrease the number of people who are allowed into the country, depending on the success of the program.
As the summer season is starting to draw nearer, we are seeing more and more countries starting to announce their re-opening procedures. It will be exciting to see how Ibiza implements such procedures, and what the results will be.
