Munich-based live act, DJ, and producer Innellea has remixed WhoMadeWho and Blue Hawaii’s latest collaborative single, “Kiss Me Hard.”
The acid-drenched reinterpretation of the summery, nostalgia-laced tune arrives today on WhoMadeWho’s label, The Moment, and sees Innellea join a stellar roster of remixers on the Danish trio’s forthcoming Kiss & Forget LP—due out September 13—following “Love Will Save Me” remixes from CamelPhat and Marten Lou, and a “Children” remix from Mind Against & Dyzen.
Drawing inspiration from the sounds of the “Dark Prince”—aka midtempo electro trailblazer Gesaffelstein—Innellea’s rework puts the ‘hard’ in “Kiss Me Hard,” flipping the hazy, melancholic original into a moody and thumping basement weapon.
“Since the original had more of a summery vibe, I thought it would be exciting to give the song a twist and produce a darker version,” Innellea said in a press release. “It made me think of the Dark Prince, who has shaped my musical career since the beginning.”
Throughout the remix, thunderous kick drums, squelching acid basslines, magnitudinous synth stabs, and skittish hi-hat accents send chills down the spine, juxtaposing Blue Hawaii’s youthful, coming-of-age vocal with a downright dirty sonic experience.
The track also arrives hot on the heels of the lineup announcement for WhoMadeWho’s second annual label festival, The Moment.
Taking place in Copenhagen from August 7-9, the event will showcase the same curatorial prowess found in WhoMadeWho’s remix recruitment for Kiss & Forget with performances from AMÉMÉ, BLOND:ISH, Lovefoxy, LP Giobbi, Marcel Dettman, Tripolism, and more, plus a hybrid set from the trio.
