In celebration of the company’s landmark 30th anniversary this year, Insomniac has released a new short film covering their journey from starting out as an underground rave promoter on the West Coast to becoming one of dance music’s foremost global party hosts.
The 30-minute film, which is now available to watch on YouTube, begins with a brief Insomniac history lesson, rolling back the years to share footage and snapshots from the company’s early days, hosting Southern California events like Nocturnal Wonderland and the formative years of Electric Daisy Carnival.
Despite resistance from the federal government in the early 2000s with legislation like the widely publicized R.A.V.E. Act, Pasqualle Rotella and his team continued to produce industry-shaping events and form a strong dance music community. By the time EDM had reached mass appeal in the early 2010s, Insomniac had cemented its place in the hearts and minds of ravers worldwide.
Titled Celebrating 30 Years, the film features stories and testimonies from nearly 50 DJs. Artists like Afrojack, Deorro, Dr. Fresch, J. Worra, Timmy Trumpet and many more have shared highlights from their careers, both performing and raving at Insomniac events over the last 30 years, alongside emotional anecdotes from festival attendees.
