It’s tax day, which means John Summit’s new album is out.
The former accountant turned superstar DJ’s sophomore LP, CTRL ESCAPE, arrives via Experts Only and Darkroom Records today, expanding a self-portrait of one of current dance music’s foremost figures, from his origin story to the creative freedom he’s brandished on his rise to the top.
Across 13 tracks, including high-profile collaborations with Feid, The Chainsmokers, Julia Wolf, and Devault, the follow-up to Summit’s 2024 debut album, Comfort In Chaos, fuses his wide-ranging genre influences, pairing his signature melodics and tech house flair with dubstep, drum & bass, and other heavier styles.
On the whole, the album is meant to act as a snapshot of “John Summit’s life ‘right now,’ according to a press release. As he moves between stadium gigs, intimate club shows, and wooked-out festivals, each track is meant to exist in its own world. Together, they render a continuously developing image of one of the world’s most successful electronic artists.
The album lands less than a week after Summit played a surprise set at the Do LaB stage at Coachella, capping off a run of several album launch pop-up shows, which also made major stops at Reframe Studios in Los Angeles and Colorado’s famous Red Rocks.
