After months of hype, John Summit has finally released his highly anticipated debut album, Comfort In Chaos.
The expansive 12-track project from the house and techno sensation arrives today via Summit’s own Experts Only imprint in partnership with Darkroom Records, following his milestone headline show at Madison Square Garden last month.
Comfort In Chaos is said to reveal “the man behind the icon,” according to a press release, with Summit “injecting his usual body-first approach to dance music with genuine heat and emotion.”
The album touches a variety of electronic subgenres, from the hedonistic house and techno of Summit’s Chicago home to his favorite UK-leaning genres like garage, liquid, and dancefloor drum & bass.
Following a deep house opening on the title track, “Comfort In Chaos,” Summit quickly dives into this exploration of genre and himself on the album’s focus track, “Tears.” With a backdrop of atmospheric synths, piano melodies, and powerful vocals from Paige Cavell, Summit says the old-school trance-inspired tune “starts off as John Schuster and ends as John Summit,” capturing the duality of one of modern dance music’s foremost mega stars.
Five other new tracks appear on Comfort In Chaos, including Summit’s coveted Of The Trees collaboration, “Stay With Me,” the too-good-to-be-a-DJ-tool production, “comedown,” a liquid drum & bass collaboration with venbee on “palm of my hands,” and a pair of melodic tunes in “Give Me Anything” with Elderbrook and “Undo” featuring KOATES.
The album also features previously released album singles “EAT THE BASS,” “Shiver” and “Where You Are” with singer-songwriter Hayla, “Go Back” with D&B trailblazer Sub Focus and vocalist Julia Church, and “Resonate” with fellow Chicago dance heavyweight Kaskade.
Following huge performances at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest, and his four-day NYC takeover surrounding the Madison Square Garden show, Summit is slated for further summer appearances at PAROOKAVILLE, Ushuaïa Ibiza, Sonus Festival, Creamfields and more. This fall, he’ll head down under for an Australian tour before returning to Chicago for a now three-night headline run at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in November.
