California house music savant, Justin Martin, just dropped his newest single, “Eye Of The Storm” on his own label, What To Do. This is the label’s sixth release, all of which have come from Martin himself except for Tchami‘s remix of Martin’s consistent dance floor weapon, “Stay.”
On “Eye of the Storm,” Martin captures the swirling winds of a hurricane in sonic form with repeated synth stabs and ominous vocals, creating a certain level of suspense before we hit the eye. At that moment, midrange, string-driven melodies provide relief, but the suspense remains as the storm is sure return when the eye passes.
“There is a serene beauty that always takes place in the eye of a storm, amidst all the violent chaos that surrounds it. Capturing that extreme juxtaposition was my goal.” – Justin Martin
