Las Vegas Road And Airport Construction Likely To Cause Heavy Traffic At EDC 2023

Several major road closures and construction projects are taking place in Las Vegas this weekend that may cause longer delays than usual surrounding EDC Las Vegas.

Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella warned ravers in a social media post that construction at Harry Reid International Airport/McCarran Airport, the main airport in Las Vegas, would result in flight delays.

One runway is currently down for maintenance—which typically occurs every 10-15 years—affecting flights coming in and out of Vegas.

And for those who are driving, there is also construction along the I-15 freeway on the way to Vegas that could cause delays.

The entire freeway of the I-15 will be affected this weekend as well as roadwork between mileposts 95 and 118 on both the northbound and southbound lanes of the I-15 will be intermittently closed Monday-Friday from 7PM until 5AM. Those coming from the East should be aware of this project.

Furthermore, a construction project between Apex/US-93 Exit 64 and the Las Vegas Speedway, just north of Las Vegas and North-East of the Speedway, can also affect travel to the festival as they expand the freeway to three lanes.

Much of this construction will reduce the I-15 to one lane in each direction until Thursday at 6AM, affecting those heading to pre-festival parties or camp EDC.

2023 seems to be a perfect storm of traffic as Insomniac also emailed shuttle pass holders to let them know that mid-strip stops will no longer be available due to construction projects on Las Vegas Boulevard.

The project is paving the street for the Formula 1 race taking place this November and was supposed to be finished on May 19.

But delays in the project mean the road will remain closed and shuttles cannot travel that route. While mid-strip shuttle pass holders can change to another off-strip shuttle stop like the Rio, they should expect extended delays and wait times.

So this symphony of construction means that those leaving for the festival should leave as early as possible and all should expect massive delays.
