Lollapalooza Renames EDM Stage “Sonny’s” For Skrillex’s Grand Return

Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza is paying homage to Skrillex ahead of his grand return to the festival next month.

Upon examining the Chicago festival’s 2024 performance schedule, announced today, music fans will notice something different about the billing for Lollapalooza’s famous Perry’s Stage.

In honor of the nine-time Grammy-winner and electronic music legend’s first performance at Lollapalooza in a decade, they’ve unofficially renamed the dance music hotspot “Sonny’s” for his Saturday performance—Skrillex’s real name is Sonny Moore—and packed it with sets from some of his marquee collaborators and friends.

In addition to being Skrillex’s first set at Lollapalooza since 2014, the special guest performance will also mark his first in all of Chicago since 2016, when he played at Chance The Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring World festival.

At the time of Skrillex’s last Lollapalooza romp, he had just released his now-iconic debut album, Recess. Now, a decade on from the brostep boom of the mid-2010s, he’s an industry hero and collaborative workhorse, helping to propel the next generation of electronic talent with his coveted co-sign.

On Saturday, August 3, Lollapalooza’s “Sonny’s” stage will host several of these Skrillex-endorsed acts, including a B2B from the artist’s recent “TAKA” collaborator Ahadaddream and fellow UK talent Manara, Los Angeles rapper-producer 2hollis, and 100 gecsDylan Brady, who linked up with Skrillex on “Supersonic (My Existence)” back in 2021.

Later in the day, the heavy hitters come out, with performances to come from venerated hip-hop producer Kenny Beats, acclaimed UK jungle revivalist Nia Archives, and of course, Skrillex’s B3B buddy and fellow electronic mastermind, Four Tet.

On all other days of the festival schedule, Lollapalooza’s electronic playground will revert to its given name, Perry’s, which honors Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, who revolutionized the live music industry when he founded the festival on a touring model in 1991.

Lollapalooza will return to Grant Park from August 1-4, with artists like SZA, The Killers, Hozier, Zeds Dead, and more set to perform for an estimated 400,000 fans across eight stages. Tickets are available at lollapalooza.com.
