Marlon Hoffstadt has shared a plea for responsible raving following his recent Australian festival tour.
The Berlin-based techno sensation encouraged fans to be cautious with substances in a series of videos posted to Instagram stories earlier this week, after another video shared by TikTok user @graceclemente_ captured Hoffstadt pausing his set at Wildlands Festival in Adelaide to tell the crowd to “drink some water, look out for each other and chill a f***ing bit.”
Hoffstadt’s sound-off on Instagram Stories has since been reposted by @caitdecr on TikTok, wherein the acclaimed trance-techno hybrid artist, aka DJ Daddy Trance, encouraged ravers to take things slower when partying at festivals.
“I think to create a safer space on the dancefloor there’s a few things that need to exist,” Hoffstadt said. “One of them is a quite safe use of drugs and to watch out for each other”
“I’ve seen so many people passing out and so many really young people passing out. Maybe it’s time to educate yourself on how much you can do, what these drugs do to you,” he continued. “I know it’s all fun, and all party and s***, but for me it’s not fun seeing people pass out during my sets and being carried out by security. For me, it’s also not fun to take down the music because some person somewhere in the middle can’t get out of the crowd.”
Closing his statement, Hoffstadt said, “Guys, drink some water, do a little bit less. Go longer, not faster maybe, and just watch out, because it’s also really f***ing dangerous.” Watch the full video below.
This month, the Australian state of New South Wales began piloting a free pill-testing service at music festivals. Other states have done the same, including Canberra, which launched its testing program in 2022, and Queensland, which became the first state to launch two permanent testing clinics in March 2024.
In Victoria, Australia, local officials have also called for regulated pill testing in their jurisdiction following the death of a 23-year-old man due to a suspected drug overdose at Pitch Music & Arts Festival last year. The festival’s 2024 edition was also cut short due to extreme heat.
@caitdecr So great that he’s talking about this and to hear it from the artist’s perspective – stay safe and do your research, it really affects more people than just you. #btv #beyondthevalley #festival
