Today, Kasablanca has shared the heartbreaking news that Micky Kasablanca, one-half of the progressive house duo, has been diagnosed with cancer.
In a statement posted to Instagram today, Micky revealed that during the final days of Kasablanca’s Crossing The Rubicon Tour, he was rushed to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery, leading to the cancellation of the group’s shows in Miami and Washington D.C.
“The surgery went well, however, I’m currently going through an aggressive chemotherapy treatment,” Micky wrote. “My doctors are confident the cancer is curable and that I will make a full recovery.”
The producer explained that unfortunately, his treatment is scheduled to continue through February, meaning Kasablanca will have to cancel their upcoming performances at Zamna Tulum and Solaris Festival in Bogotá, Colombia.
The man behind the Micky Kasablanca alias is believed to be Candian DJ and producer Shaun Frank, first revealed by EDM Identity following a closer look at the artist’s songwriting credits, cross-referenced with Kasablanca performance photos.
Since Frank launched the project in 2020, Kasablanca has quickly built a cult following on the back of a beloved retro and synth-forward aesthetic. EDM Identity also reports that between 2022 and 2023, Frank’s original Kasablanca collaborator, “Alexi Kasablanca,” was replaced with a different producer who took the pseudonym “Viktor.”
“Our debut album is very much underway and we’re excited to share new music with you when I am cancer free,” Micky–AKA Shaun Frank–wrote in the final line of his statement. “I promise, Viktor and I will be back stronger, louder, and more synthalogic than ever before.”
