Mike Posner will be climbing Mount Everest to raise money for Detroit’s Justice Center.
Today, Mike Posner has announced that he will be venturing into the Himalayas to summit Mount Everest in order to raise money for Detroit’s Justice Center. Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain, towering more than 29,000 feet. For the past year, Mike Posner has spent his time high altitude training in Colorado. Posner is set to make the climb this April and May, which he revealed in an interview with CBS This Morning. Posner released the following statement regarding his upcoming journey,
“While my walk across America was about me finding myself, I want my climb to be about others. Before my dad died, he was a criminal defense attorney in Detroit for 40 years. I’ve decided to dedicate my climb to the Detroit Justice Center because they’re doing criminal justice reform work in my city that would make my dad beam with joy.”
In 2019, Posner walked 2,800 miles across the United States before being bit by a rattlesnake which forced him to end his journey earlier than expected. Despite being bed-ridden and forced to learn to walk again, Posner ended 2020 with a surprise release of his 36-minute rap-opera called Operation: Wake Up. The release highlighted the struggles of mental illness and suicide ideation.
Since 2009, Mike Posner has quietly continued to become one of the world’s most successful and recognizable voices. Posner has continued to use his voice by releasing Operation: Wake Up and now, climbing Mount Everest in order to raise awareness for Detroit’s Justice Center.
