For the first time ever, Spain’s Monegros Desert Festival is ending its 22-hour marathon rave with two simultaneous closing sets.
When the world-famous techno gathering returns to the sands of Fraga on July 25, Monegros’ two most ambitious stages will keep rocking until the festival’s final moments at 12PM the next morning.
While Monegros’ Techno Cathedral has long been the festival’s communal closing destination—this year culminating in a set from Detroit techno legend Richie Hawtin—Monegros’ brand-new OUTWORLD stage will host another closing ritual led by Madrid-born, Berlin-based techno innovator Héctor Oaks, as the festival caps off its nonstop programming with two generations of genre royalty.
With Oaks embodying today’s contemporary rave spirit and Hawtin repping a lifetime of pioneering work that began in techno’s most nascent years, the two-closing move is said to reflect both the scale of this year’s edition and the diversity of the festival’s growing audience, according to organizers, as Monegros looks to create one of the most historic finales in its 33-year history.
Created in partnership with German hard techno force Klangkuenstler, the new 360-degree, 20,000-capacity OUTWORLD stage arrives as one of the festival’s most anticipated additions yet. The portal-inspired stage’s debut at Monegros will mark the renowned event concept’s only festival appearance this year.
Elsewhere in the desert dust, Monegros will host curated stages from Unreal Germany, Awakenings, elrow, Indira Paganotto’s ARTCORE, and Adrian Mills’ 240 KM/H, touting its signature Face-to-Face format.
Unfolding over 22 consecutive hours, this year’s 120-strong lineup also features performances from Amelie Lens, Joseph Capriati, Paco Osuna, Len Faki, Kobosil, Fatima Hajji, Seth Troxler, Marco Faraone, Chelina Manuhutu B2B Tini Gessler, Clara Cuvé, Dax J B2B Daria Kolosova, Ben Klock B2B SHDW, Sally C, Brutalismus 3000, and many more.
