Neumonic and Mary Droppinz have teamed up to drop their new single, “What?”
The chugging UK garage track arrives on Deadbeats today as the first single from Neumonic’s forthcoming EP on Zeds Dead’s famous label, and sees the pair of California bass staples unite for an awaited debut collaboration after throwing down a heavyweight B2B last year.
Combining Neumonic’s forward-thinking flavor of garage and Droppinz’s signature deep dub sound, “What?” keeps listeners guessing with a head-spinning cocktail of breakbeats, wobbly basslines, cheeky vocal chops, and a big dose of dub siren.
Since it opened the pair’s first official B2B at The Untz Festival last May, the track has remained a high point in their solo sets across a breakout year for each artist in 2025.
“’What?’ is a long overdue collaboration with Mary Droppinz that we’ve had so much fun playing out live,” Neumonic said in a statement. “We started this on our last Colorado shows together and has slowly evolved over the months after and slowly added more ridiculous lyrics.”
After debuting at Minnesota’s Infrasound and Wormhole in San Francisco, Neumonic is heading into the new year with support from top tastemakers like Jamie xx, Zeds Dead, Mala, Justin Martin, and Skrillex on “Bassline Bizness,” from his September-released Forghorn Dance EP on UKF.
Mary Droppinz is fresh off the release of her latest solo project, “Sugar.” Cutting Mary Poppins’ “Spoonful of Sugar” with gritty trap and riddim drops, the remix has received plays from Zeds Dead, Skrillex, Rezz, Skream, Tape B, and John Summit, with momentum building after Droppinz’s major festival debuts at Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Elements, and GRiZ’s Valley of the Seven Stars in 2025.
