OKAYVAL, one of Florida’s hottest up-and-coming producers, has done it again with the release of “Poison.” Continuing her journey into stutter house, OKAYVAL is pushing the boundaries with this drop.

“Poison” explores the complicated feelings one can have in a toxic relationship: how from the outside a toxic relationship can seem obvious, but when love is involved it can feel like we are getting poisoned and don’t even know it.

“I don’t know what’s happening. How did it come to this?” is the main repeating tagline in the track, backed by a stutter house beat you’d hear in a club setting.

Gaining popularity on TikTok, “Poison” serves as a relatable song to listeners everywhere, and is extremely catchy while doing so.

Taking inspiration from Louis The Child and ODESZA, stutter house has continued to grow since the mid-2010s. While typically euphoric and high energy, OKAYVAL’s twist on the genre with “Poison” explores the darker, slower bpm sounds of stutter house.

In an exclusive quote for EDM Maniac, OKAYVAL said, “I felt inspired to make this track by the growing presence and influence of stutter house on the EDM scene in 2024. I felt ‘Poison’ was a great opportunity to experiment in that growing subgenre, while pushing my abilities as a producer to create something new and fresh, yet exciting and inspired.”
