UK electronic pioneer Paul Oakenfold has been accused of sexual harassment by a former assistant.
The former assistant claims that as early as October 2022 she was subjected to episodes of Oakenfold masturbating in front of her up to four times a day.
According to the official statement, when she reported the behavior to management, she was forced to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement and saw her hours decrease. When she declined to sign, the assistant was compelled to do so under threats of termination of employment.
The assistant is seeking $25,000 in damages after being let go from the company in March for what the company cited as a “lack of work.”
Now Oakenfold has responded to the allegations, issuing a statement that reads, “Let me be absolutely clear: I categorically deny any and all claims of improper conduct. Respect, integrity, and consent are values I hold dear, and I have always treated everyone with utmost professionalism.”
He continued, “It is disheartening to see these baseless accusations, which appear to be nothing more than a calculated attempt to tarnish my reputation and extort money. I am committed to fully cooperating with any investigations to clear my name and will exhaust all legal remedies available, including the option to countersue, to protect my reputation, and seek justice.”
Paul Oakenfold was one of the most influential names in electronic music in the 80s and 90s, credited with bringing the sounds of Ibiza dance music to the UK and throughout the world.
