Peggy Gou Announces Debut LP, ‘I Hear You,’ Shares New Single “1+1=11”

Club sensation Peggy Gou has announced that her much-anticipated debut album, I Hear You, will arrive on June 7, 2024, via revered underground label XL Recordings.

The 10-track LP serves as an all-encompassing climax of the South Korean-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer’s career thus far.

I Hear You will feature Gou’s acclaimed singles “I Believe In Love Again” with Lenny Kravitz and the viral “(It Goes Like) Nanana,” which was Beatport’s top-selling track of 2023. Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano has also contributed vocals to the project.

I Hear You is more than just my debut album,” Gou said in a press release. “It embodies countless hours of dedication in my journey to create something timeless, and is a testament to the power of listening, to ourselves and to each other.”

Today, she’s also shared a third single off of the upcoming project: “1+1=11.” The track, which premiered at Gou’s release party in Berlin last night, is accompanied by a new music video starring and directed by Icelandic-Danish sculptor and Gou’s close friend, Olafur Eliasson.

“Sculpture and dance are both non-verbal languages. Sometimes in order to communicate, you simply have to move,” Eliasson said of the video. “That’s what happened when I first met Peggy. We were having lunch, talking about our shared interests in psychosonics, rhythm, and movement, and to show her the moves I was talking about, I stood up in the restaurant to dance.”

“I was thrilled that she later asked me to dance on video for one of her upcoming releases and to develop the visual language for it,” he continued. “By bringing together dance—embodied exploration of space—with colorful shadows, lights, and mirrors, I was able to bring some of the key interests that have long shaped my art into an entirely new context. Working together has been rewarding and a lot of fun.”

Eliasson also designed the forthcoming album’s “ring of ears” cover art, and an edited version of his poem, Your Planet Seen From Within, features on the LP’s opening track, “Your Art.”
