Porter Robinson Sets Release Date For Third Album, ‘SMILE! :D’

Porter Robinson has set a release date and title for his anticipated third studio album.

Robinson shared the news in a social media post today, announcing that SMILE! :D will arrive on July 26, 2024.

“The album that I was TRYING to write was this nonstop party—NO sincerity, ALL fun, an album that revels in absurdity for a world that rejects context. And that was the plan until I accidentally started how I was really feeling, and … you’ll hear the rest,” Robinson wrote. “My most fun, and maybe my most heartbreaking album.”

The acclaimed “Shelter” producer began his new album rollout in early March with a series of cryptic teasers, including a mockumentary-style YouTube video titled “The Day Porter Robinson Deleted All His Music”—thankfully, his entire catalog remained available on streaming services—a countdown clock on his website and a complete wipe of his Instagram page.

A few days later, he would announce, “The album is done,” and share a video teaser that has since materialized as the album’s lead single, “Cheerleader.” The pop-infused track and its ensuing music video have already amassed over 8.5 million combined streams.

SMILE! :D will mark Robinson’s first full-length LP since he released Nurture in 2021—then a follow-up to his 2014 debut Worlds, which is famous for hits such as “Sad Machine,” “Divinity” with Amy Millan, and “Goodbye To A World.”

Robinson has yet to share a full tracklist for SMILE! :D. However, he announced yesterday that the album’s second single, “KNOCK YOURSELF OUT XD,” will arrive tomorrow, April 23, 2024. Another video teaser for that track shows a hooded Robinson slaying inflatable tube men—frequently used by car dealerships—with a katana.

Fans can pre-save SMILE! :D for digital listening here, or pre-order a copy in vinyl and CD formats at Robinson’s official website.
