Primavera Sound Won’t Return To Madrid In 2024 After Debut Earlier This Year

After making its debut in Madrid earlier this year, Primavera Sound will not return to the Spanish city in 2024.

This past May, Primavera Sound hosted back-to-back weekends in both Barcelona and Madrid with the latter taking place at the Ciudad del Rock venue in Arganda del Rey, Spain.

But after a slew of problems including the cancellation of its first day due to weather, organizers confirmed that the festival will not return to Madrid in 2024.

A press release about the festival cited “annoyances” with the city with lmudena Heredero, director of Primavera Sound Madrid, saying, “Today, in the run-up to 2024, the city does not have a site able to host an event of this magnitude and format in terms of audience demands, production requirements, and musical show… Although the evaluation of the festival was more than satisfactory on a musical level, the expectations we had were not fulfilled and the experience of the festivalgoers due to several logistical aspects was not the desired one.”

EDM Maniac’s Peter Volpe was on site for the event and claimed in our famous Festival Report Card that the largest issue was transportation to and from the festival.

The Madrid venue, Ciudad del Rock, is only accessible via one road, making transportation and traffic a nightmare.

The shuttle bus provided by Primavera Sound was also unreliable and had wait times of up to two hours for the 2.5-mile trek back to Arganda del Rey.

Primavera Sound is a well-known and respected brand due to its 22-year history and will take place in Barcelona May 30-June 2 in 2024 but, for now, the event will steer clear of Madrid.
