Under the partnership, Sony Music artists will be able to reach new audiences and increase revenue
Roblox and Sony have announced a brand-new partnership that will allow music from Sony artists to be streamed in Roblox’s immersive, digital world. The newly announced partnership will allow various Sony artists the ability to be engulfed in the Roblox ‘metaverse,’ which attracts a young demographic of users. According to a press release, “Roblox and Sony Music will work together to develop innovative music experiences for the Roblox community that offer a range of new commercial opportunities for Sony Music artists to reach new audiences and generate new revenue streams around virtual entertainment.”
A spokesperson disclosed to The Verge that the company would not be announcing “Any specific events or experiences at this time” but that the global platform was also in talks with another record label. Over the past few years, Roblox has grown immensely, reporting 43 million daily active visitors this past May. A few months back, the company was sued by the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) for profiting off of copyrighted songs, however, Roblox has since commented that the company,
“Respects the rights of all creators and uses advanced technology to screen all uploaded music. Roblox has no tolerance for repeat offenders and quickly responds to all submitted DMCA requests.”
