Irish airline Ryanair has banned duty-free alcohol possession on flights from the UK to Ibiza to prevent unruly passengers from getting too intoxicated while heading to the party island.
Those traveling to Ibiza this summer should be aware that Ryanair has banned the consumption of alcohol aboard their flights following an incident where 15 people were removed from a flight from Manchester to Ibiza after drunken behavior caused a five-hour delay.
All duty-free alcohol must be stored under the aircraft and employees can now search all cabin bags for alcohol and can deny customers entry if they seem unfit for travel.
If a traveler is found consuming unauthorized alcohol, they will be removed from the flight.
The Balearic Islands also seem to be cracking down on binge drinking by banning happy hours, two-for-one drinks, pub crawls, and party boats. All-inclusive resorts also face restrictions such as limiting guests to six drinks per day.
Those who defy these rules face high fines and bans of business as Ibiza attempts to quell the unruly behavior it has become notorious for.
Ibiza is one of the most popular party destinations in the world with tourism accounting for 84% of its GDP and just under three million tourists visiting in 2022, more than the population of Chicago.
