Police in Berlin are searching for a man who reportedly drove a car into the entrance of longstanding nightclub Sisyphos, targeting the club’s door staff after he was denied entry.
German news outlet Berliner Zeitung reports that the suspect attempted to enter the club in the city’s Rummelsburg neighborhood at around 5:50AM on Saturday, September 7, before two security guards turned him away, “which he initially politely acknowledged and then left.”
Shortly thereafter, the suspect allegedly returned in a rental car and “deliberately drove into the club’s entrance gate twice”—hitting an exterior wall and the club’s “famous gate with the kissing ducks”—before targeting the two bouncers “one after the other,” according to Berliner Zeitung.
No one was injured and the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Berlin’s Ostkreuz train station, according to police, who have begun an official investigation into the incident for “attempted grievous bodily harm” and are seeking witnesses to come forward. The extent of property damage caused was unclear, according to Berliner Zeitung.
Hailed by Resident Advisor as one of Berlin’s most popular clubs, Sisyphos has operated out of a former dog biscuit factory since 2008 and is known for hosting weekly marathon parties from Friday to Monday, which take place across two indoor rooms and a large outdoor garden.
