With his longtime record deal set to expire next year, Skrillex has shared another glimpse into what the future may hold as he embarks on his next chapter as an independent artist, this time teasing the revival of his famed label collective, OWSLA.
After teaming up with German house and techno stalwart Loco Dice and afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML to release their hypnotic new club track, “Heavy Heart,” last week, the electronic icon took to Instagram yesterday to drop more hints about his next move, now that his final single release with Atlantic Records, a partnership nearly 15 years strong, has come to pass.
Picking up where he left off from a candid thread of posts on X, formerly Twitter, last week, Skrillex linked his artistic headspace to the lessons found in filmmaker David Lynch’s autobiography, Catching the Big Fish, and announced that his latest track “will be my final release as I’m now entering into full focus mode on my forthcoming projects.”
“I’m feeling every cell in my body, feeling so alive and connected as I move into this new phase,” he continued.
While fans will have to wait to find out exactly what Skrillex is cooking up next, the Grammy-winning artist dropped plenty of easter eggs in his cryptic Instagram post.
Alongside an array of studio snapshots and photo appearances from next-gen star ISOxo and Mr. Oizo’s “Flat Eric” puppet, Skrillex posted a photo of the OWSLA logo and tagged its currently defunct Instagram page, suggesting that he may revive the iconic underground imprint famous for platforming 2010s-era electronic favorites like Porter Robinson, Zedd, Gesaffelstein, What So Not, Mija and many more.
Skrillex has not yet confirmed a release date for his final album with Atlantic or his upcoming independent projects. Check out his full post and listen to “Heavy Heart” below.
